Maybach 62S Landaulet

Maybach 62S Landaulet revealed: Closest thing to a Maybach convertible

The Maybach Landaulet Concept is powered by a  6.0 liter V12 engine with twin turbochargers that produces 612 horsepower. Performance is enhanced by an electronically controlled air suspension AIRMATIC DC (Dual Control) and the Adaptive Damping System (ADS II)  improves  agility and  comfort.

Rear passengers also get the entertainment package with a DVD-player, six CD-changer, a cooler compartment with its own electric compressor and an intelligent system which holds glasses, goblets and champagne bottles safely in position.

There is no word whether Maybach will produce the car, but a limited production is expected if the Landaulet concept generates enough attention.

Maybach still exists as an Uber-premium brand

In terms of profitability, it’s been said that the investment on Maybach was minimal as the car was based in part on the last generation S-class.  Why they had to make that painfully obvious with the exterior styling, interior components and base-model S-class style wheels though, is a mystery.

Zetsche mentioned that the decision will be made in the next two years whether to expand the brand’s offerings or let it get deep-six’ed.

2010 GMC Terrain

Here's the very first shots of the General's upcoming Theta-based crossover that's all about being "Professional Grade" — the 2010 GMC Terrain. The Terrain's showing a big block-like grille peeking through the semi-transparent bra it's wearing. Our spy shooters even indicate they believe the mesh you see surrounding said badge may in fact be indicative of a Denali trim. All we know is the Terrain will be kissing cousins to the Vue, and the next-generation 2010 Chevy Equinox. Also, it looks mind-numbingly boring. But if you're still interested — for god only knows what reason..

Chevy Volt Spy Photos

According to GM E-Flex spokesman Rob Peterson, what we saw was only a ride and handling mule — this is the E-Flex equipped Malibu. Okay, so the color is different. This proves nothing! Regardless, the Chevy Volt is still pretty far out on its timeline — so far out that Popular Mechanics doesn't even know GM is working on exactly what they're asking for in their latest opinion piece. True, the Volt's got a second powertrain in there, but for the most part it does what they're asking for. Hmm, maybe they should just stick with getting Wert to lobby for better concept cars or, you know, rendering flying cars every other month.

Daihatsu Creates 3D Holographic

Daihatsu has been working with a supplier to create a 3D holographic display for the dashboard of its futuristic cars. The idea is to have a 2D setup similar to a traditional dashboard that can then project a 3D image into space to create driver awareness of impending safety issues. While it sounds as if using this tech could actually be more dangerous than whatever issue it's alerting the driver to, Daihatsu plans on incorporating the display into its advanced safety system for market in cars as soon as 2012.

Daewoo Tico

Here's symbolism for you. Somewhere in the frozen Romanian winter, a Ferrari breaks down, its bourgiousie owner at the mercy of the elements. Along comes a hard working member of the proletariat in his modest Daewoo Tico. Just as history has proved throughout the centuries, the upper class is pulled along by the hard work of the commoner. Of course, that narrative is completely made up, this could just as easily be some rascally car thieves dragging a doomed F430 to the chop shop. Either way, sucks to be that guy.

Chrysler LA Series

An engine family that included V6, V8, and V10 variants and is still being manufactured today after more than 40 years? Starting with the 273-cube V8 in 1964 (itself a descendant of the mid-50s-vintage A series engine) and proceeding through vast numbers of 318s and 360s (and let us not forget the screamin' 340 Six-Pack pictured above), the LA design ended up as the basis of the 488 and 505 V10s used in Vipers and SRT-10s. While the Slant Six has pretty well established itself as the top contender for the All-Time Most Bulletproof Detroit Engine Award, its 318 stablemate makes a strong bid for second place.
